Dendera musician Allan Chimbetu was in the dock yesterday facing allegations that he accepted a cellphone for repairs and never returned it to the owner. It seems besides being a musician, Chimbetu also repairs cellphones. Saxon Mazhanga, the owner of the cellphone, was claiming $235 as compensation for his cellphone at the Harare Civil Court yesterday.

Mazhanga claimed he gave Chimbatu his cellphone after he was told by a friend that the dendera star repairs cellphones.

He told magistrate Ms Audrey Tarugarira that Chimbetu was not doing anything to show that he wanted replace his cellphone.

“I went to his workplace to collect my cellphone after a colleague told me that the musician was going to do more harm than good to my phone since he was bogus.

“I waited for him the whole day at his workplace, but to no avail as he was evading me,” he said.

Mazhanga claimed he bought the cellphone overseas for $235 and said he was asked by Chimbetu to get a quotation for a replacement and he got one for $110.

Chimbetu argued that the cellphone was not worth $235 despite being second-hand.

“The cellphone he is talking about was a second-hand and besides the US$235 he is claiming is too much because it’s double the actual price,” he said.

Ms Tarugarira ordered Chimbetu to pay Mazhanga $150 for his cellphone before August 31 plus costs of the suit.
