The National Arts Merit awards will take place tomorrow at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale. Outstanding artists will get awards in categories of literary arts, dance, music, visual arts, spoken word, theatre, Film and Television, media and promotion.

Music, the most popular genre, will see Jah Prayzah, Winky D and Killer T squaring off in the categories.

In a statement, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe that organises the awards, saluted artists that submitted their works.

NACZ communications and marketing officer Cathrine Mthombeni said the participation of artists and stakeholders would lead to the success of the 15th edition of NAMA.

“The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe would like to thank all those that entered for the 15th edition of NAMA for making it a success. It is the participation of the artists and stakeholders that make the NAMA and indeed the whole arts activities a success.

“Adjudicators this year complimented the tremendous improvement in the quality of music videos, and the quality of submitted entries and improvement in entries of exhibitions as both public and private galleries actively participated in NAMA for the purpose of promoting the artists that exhibited in their galleries” Mthombeni said.

NACZ launched the inaugural National Arts Merit Awards in 2002. NAMA is the forum where NACZ recognises outstanding achievements within the arts sector by rewarding excelling artists.

The awards are a means of encouraging creativity and excellence in the quality of the arts, making Zimbabwe a force to reckon with on the region and international arena.
