THE stage is set in Sakubva this morning, as about 20 teams line up for the Willard Katsande-sponsored Under-18 football tournament to be held in Mutare this weekend.

The tournament will see top teams from Mutare, Chipinge and Penhalonga battling it out for honours after the Zimbabwe international upped stakes this year by investing US$7 000 in the competition.

Big names that are expected to grace the event include tournament founder Katsande, his Kaizer Chiefs teammates Ovidy Karuru and Kingston Nkatha, Dynamos striker Washington Pakamisa, and four-time Premiership title-winning coach Callisto Pasuwa.

Tournament organising committee member Panganai Mbaradza yesterday said all the preparations were complete and they are just waiting for kick-off time.

“We have got everything in place. This is a big event in Manicaland and we did our best to make sure everything is up to standard. The tournament will run from 9 am till 5pm today and on Sunday (tomorrow) we will have our semi-finals and finals to determine the winners for this year. We have divided the teams into four groups of fives and they will be playing in a knock-out format,” said Mbaradza.

The tournament is now in it’s third year running and the Warriors midfield hardman has pledged to continue sponsoring the event for the long run.

Winners will walk away with kits and cash prizes.
