As the build-up to this year’s edition of the runway show Zimbabwe Fashion International intensifies, the organisers have launched a fashion fair – Fashion’s Day Out – that has its first edition this Sunday at Queen of Hearts.

Formerly Zimbabwe Fashion Week, the ZFI event will present a selling point for local fashion and will be held monthly.

“The FDO is an event under the ZFI and is a marketing platform for upcoming designers. Various players in the fashion industry – fashion photographers and designers of shoes, handbags and other accessories – will participate. We are not limiting ourselves but will cover everything to do with fashion,” said the event’s public relations director Tinopona Katsande.

She said the fair would see not only designers but fashion photographers and fashion crafts showcasing and selling their work.

Local celebrities, socialites and well-to-do businesspeople are expected to grace the event.

“This initiative is also our way of helping designers so that they actually earn a living from their work, that is why we are linking them with potential buyers,” she said.

She also justified the demand for local products saying the emerging red carpet events meant more unique designs and glamorous styles were needed.

Besides all things about fashion, music will also be a crucial part of the fair with an array of artistes billed to perform throughout the day.

“We will also introduce other innovations like our fashion canteen that is run by our own chef who will serve unique dishes at the event,” said Katsande.

The FDO is a family event that is complete with a Kiddies Fashion Corner as well as activities for the whole family.
