The richest man in Africa Nigerian mogul Aliko Dangote went around the capital city, Harare, in his customary low profile yesterday. Presumably he flew in on his very own private jet, possibly the Bombardier Global Express, a necessary accessory for a man with wide flung interest.

Dangote , worth over $15billion, is known for keeping his private life exactly that way – private. Little is known about him outside his business interests. Dangote discussed business with Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and several Government officials.

Clad in a blue suit he looked every inch the rich man that he is. Blue is of course the colour favoured by bankers and it says that one is solid and trustworthy. The slightly understated manner showed that Dangote is definitely not noveau rich. He was polite, soft-spoken and reserved.

The 58-year-old Nigerian was driven around in a Range Rover Discovery which we are sure is a serious downgrade from his own usual wheels. Dangote owns the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities. The company operates in Nigeria and other African countries, including Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania and Zambia.

He is one of the Nigerians who own expensive private jets. As of January 2015, he had an estimated net worth of $18,6 billion. Dangote is ranked by Forbes magazine as the 67th richest person in the world and the richest in Africa; he peaked on the list as the 23rd richest person in the world in 2014.

He surpassed Saudi-Ethiopian billionaire Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi in 2013 by over $2,6 billion to become the world’s richest person of African descent. — extra reporting from online
