Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso ushered people into Africa Day in a special way when they presented memorable acts at Harare International Conference Centre yesterday at a concert that also featured rising musician Sam Dondo. People thronged the venue in the early hours of the night as they sought to get the best from two of the country’s top artistes that performed in the early hours of yesterday, which was Africa Day.Sam Dondo was the first musician to take the stage and he managed to convince people that he is a star in the making.

He performed songs from his album “Dyara Munamato” and excited many with his energetic performance.

Dondo was happy that he is slowly getting the dynamics of the music industry through performing on such high profile gigs.

“We are learning a lot of things when it comes to stage work. I am happy that we managed to make it and people are happy,” he said.

The musician warmed the stage for Mtukudzi who played songs from his previous albums.

“Watitsvata” hit maker however, surprised many when he failed to sample songs from his coming album “Eheka Nhayi Yahwe” as promised before the show.

However, he kept merrymakers on the dancing floor with his old songs.

For two hours the musician was energetic coordinating well with his guitarists and backing vocalist.

He was joined by Macheso on song “Watitsvata” and the two displayed dances that left fans mesmerised.

Macheso was the last musician to take the stage and the sungura ace gave his best.

He played songs from his album “Tsoka Dzerwendo” much to the delight of the fans.

The songs have gained ground and they are already sing-along tracks.

Organisers of the gig said everything went according to their plans.

“Everything went well with the two camps showing high levels of professionalism,” said one of the organisers.
