Hilary Indi

Former Studio 263 actor, Hilary Indi has embarked on a journey to nurture school pupils and youths that have a passion for acting. Indi, who is also a designer and an event manager, revealed that he had taken the initiative to nurture talented youths because he understands that not everyone is academically gifted.

“We cannot all be above average students but on the other hand it does not mean when you are not good in academics you cannot make it in other fields. My aim is to help those kids with a passion and drive towards acting to have a chance of making it in the career.

“It is important that the kids are fully oriented into what they aspire to follow. Sometimes people later on realise that, with a little guidance, they would have easily followed appropriate professions,” he said.

Indi tours different schools and rural communities giving kids lectures about acting and also helps them come up with scripts so that they can learn how to create stories for productions.

Besides tutoring kids for acting, Indi also helps kids who have a passion for fashion design and has taken up the task of encouraging boys to take up subjects like fashion and fabrics that are usually seen as feminine.

“The whole idea is to inspire the youngsters so that they can actually see that there are many career paths.
It’s also my idea that kids especially boys should not shun subjects like fashion and fabrics because right now some of the best designers are male, talk about Giorgio Armani and many others. It all starts with the right attitude.”

So far, Indi has toured schools and communities such as St Michaels Mhondoro, St Peters Kubatana and Mount St Mary’s.
