Accident victims named

POLICE yesterday released the names of four people, including a cop, who died when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck along the Harare-Hwedza Highway last Thursday.

In a statement, chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said a male adult believed to be aged 26 was yet to be identified.

The four that have been identified are the police officer Marlis Vimbai Nyanhehwe (22) of Ruvimbo Park, Marondera, Idzai Chioreso (64) of Gutu, Cynthia Kaingidza (52) of Seke and Lucia Tambura (29) of Mahusekwa.

“Police are appealing to those who are missing a relative to proceed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital and identify the remaining unidentified body of a male adult aged approximately 26 years.

“The ZRP is deeply concerned with the loss of lives in road accidents. We are urging motorists to avoid speeding and to exercise caution when travelling,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

Fifteen people were killed, 12 of them on the spot, while three others died on admission to Chitungwiza Central Hospital when the accident occurred.

Eight people were seriously injured.

Both drivers perished.

The Toyota Hiace was travelling towards Marondera with an unknown number of passengers while the Hino truck was heading towards Chitungwiza.
