43kg dagga brews trouble for siblings Dagga

A 34-year-old man and his sister yesterday appeared in court accused of conniving to hide 43 kilogrammes of dagga in a National Railways of Zimbabwe warehouse.

Carvern Muzondo, employed by Catering Industry as a computer account administrator, appeared in court jointly charged with his sister Violet (37). They are facing charges of dealing in dagga, or alternatively possession of dagga. Prosecuting, Ms Francesca Mukumbiri, alleged that on Wednesday around 3am, CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare received information that the siblings were hiding two bags of dagga at Makoni Complex along Seke Road inside an NRZ warehouse.

Detectives proceeded to the complex and laid an ambush. Around 3:30 am the detectives saw Carvern and Violet walking towards the gate carrying bags. They intercepted them and demanded to search their luggage. The detectives discovered that they were carrying dagga and arrested them. The dagga was weighed at Harare Main Post Office in the presence of the accused and it weighed 42,990kg.

The dagga has a street value of $429,90 and will be produced in court as exhibit.
