Implementation of the 10-point plan outlined by President Mugabe recently has cascaded to provinces where various projects are already at various stages of implementation.

The 10-point plan cuts across all economic enablers that fall within Zim-Asset’s four plus one legs namely food security and nutrition, social services and poverty eradication, infrastructure and utilities and, value-addition and beneficiation.

The fifth leg, which is read together with the Zim-Asset document, is reorganisation of the civil service.

Minister of State for Masvingo Province Senator Shuvai Mahofa said they had lined up several capital projects in line with the 10-point plan.

“We have several projects that we are implementing here including irrigation schemes,” she said.

“We have Manyuchi Dam in Mwenezi, which is already benefiting people and we are looking forward to other relief programmes to avert hunger in the province.

“We also have road projects in various districts that are being implemented by the District Development Fund.”

Sen Mahofa said Tokwe Mukosi Dam was another project that was expected to transform the fortunes of the people in Masvingo.

Several Government ministries had already started implementation of the plan by rolling out various projects aimed at transforming the country’s economic fortunes.

In the ICT sector, the responsible Minister Supa Mandiwanzira, recently said in line with the 10-point plan, his ministry was building a robust fibre optic backbone to ensure a reliable Internet and mobile phone connectivity to the entire population while their sister ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services had upped the digitisation process among other projects.

The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing also joined other Government portfolios in implementing the 10-point plan by rolling out a housing scheme targeting 313 000 units by 2018.

The ministry’s permanent secretary Engineer George Mlilo recently said 30 000 housing units had already been constructed in line with Zim-Asset and the 10-point plan.

Eng Mlilo said the 313 000 target was achievable and they were still within the timelines to complete the projects but the major stumbling block was lack of servicing equipment for residential stands.

He, however, said the ministry was in the process of acquiring some.

Other ministries such as Mines and Mining Development, Transport and Infrastructure Development among others had already embraced the 10-point plan and are already implementing several capital projects.
